Hi, and welcome to BarryMorris.net
In case we haven’t met, I’m Barry, by my friends call me Baz. I’m a writer.
I currently work as a Proposal Manager for a global heavy civil construction company, though I’ve published books, run a freelance copywriting business and website supporting other copywriters back in the early 2000’s, and have operated as a freelancer/consultant. I’m proof that your writing career can take many turns.
The Key ~ You have to take control of your own destiny because Amazon isn’t going to deliver a successful writing career on your doorstep. It’s totally and completely up to you.
Why I’m Running This Blog
I’ve owned this domain name for proximately 20 years. I’ve had plenty of other domains and blogs over the years, but as I get older (I turned 60 last November), I find my interests returning to what’s always given me the most satisfaction.
Helping other get ahead; that’s what life is about for me
I thank my dad for that because all my life I saw him do the same. I can’t tell you how many people we took into our home at his behest because something happened to turn their lives upside down.
He was never one to see someone in need and walk on by. He passed away last year and it was an honor to take care of him during his final two years of life.
I’ve found that helping others is the key to getting ahead
Yaro Starak, one of my early blogging mentors and someone I still read, wrote in a blog post the other day:
“Money is a by-product of creating abundance in the lives of other people.” ~Yaro Starak
And he’s right. Too often I’ve found myself focussing on sales and occasionally forgetting that my primary mission of helping others come first. If I can provide abundance for others, I know that the sales and money will follow.
What I’m currently doing
I’m living in Southern California after 30 years in the San Francisco Bay Area and I’m focused on these things:
- Showing up for work and doing my best
- Creating micropublications for an elegant digital reading experience
- Helping my youngest son find his path in life
- Carefully tending my long-distance relationship with Karen
- Slowly and carefully getting back in shape – after a few age-related injuries
- Eating keto and feeling the benefits of my body changing
- Taking photos with my iPhone X and posting them to Instagram
